Results From the Idaho QSO Party 2014
In 2014,
we celebrate the ninth anniversary of the “modern” Idaho QSO Party. We have
made a number of refinements over the years,
generally “taking it slow”, so we don’t cause confusion among those who have
been past participants. This year, we had a unique
circumstance – W1AW/7 was a participant in our event.
There
were a total of 83 logs submitted, 65 of them from stations outside Idaho and
the remaining 18 from Idaho stations. This year
we managed to get 37 of the 44 Idaho Counties on the air (although stations
representing some Counties did not submit logs). From
inspection of all logs, we believe there were another 21 Idaho stations on the
air during the IDQP event.
W1AW/7
was an “unlimited” class station, operated by a total of 16 Idaho hams that
would have normally operated using their own call
signs for this event. A special thanks to these 16 operators, and to our W1AW/7
(Idaho) Administrator/Team Leader, Scott Tuthill (K7ZO).
We also had two “prolific” Idaho Rover stations, WW7D/M and K7TM/M. These two stations spent time in 33 of our 44 Idaho Counties.
This was
also a huge year for DX, possibly because of the W1AW/7 presence. We received
logs from a total of 14 DX entities,
including 12 in Europe, one in South America, and one in the Middle East.
Closer to home, logs were submitted by stations from
29 US States and Canadian Provinces.
A
special thanks to the Kootenai Amateur Radio Club (our sponsoring Club), and the
following hams who provided assistance with
the log review: Bob Rosie (W7GSV), Bonnie Patterson (KG6QQM), Pat Patterson
(W7SGS), and Todd Silk (AD7VB).
Now that
we are wrapping up the details of Idaho QSO Party 2014, please put us on your
calendar for next year. IDQP-2015
begins at 1900Z, 14 March 2015. Hope to hear you then!
